You aren't kidding, at one time it seemed like John Saxon was in everything. This year just keeps on sucking.

Hey! Unrelated topic— did you watch Juan Brown’s “Blancolirio” video on the Boeing Bleed Air Valve crisis?

Because that’s an example of EXACTLY my issue with the guy— going off half-cocked on breaking news with false conjectures (and, in this case, TERRIBLE statistical analysis) and bad conclusions . He comes to a horrific endpoint  with regard to how much of an issue this is...

I didn’t, but is that the one about how all the Boeing airplanes that have been parked are going to fall from the sky? Giz did a story about that.

Don’t think it was “fall from the sky”, but the prospect of compressor stalls— which the memory checklist says dictates a shutdown/restart— is proposed as a real concern, especially as the lead-up to the event is very likely to be on approach.

Juan makes the mistake of saying “well, you’d never have TWO compressor stalls in the same timeframe”, which is a classic bad-stats-assumption of assuming the two events are completely random and completely uncorrelated. It’s a pretty silly bias to inject here when the WHOLE POINT is that BOTH Stage 5 Bleed Valves had been in storage on the same plane in the same environment and the same conditions. There’s much more likely to be correlation between “random events” of open bleed valves inducing compressor stalls in the same timeframe.

I’m sure he’s a helluva nice guy and (I hope) a competent pilot... but his analytical tool kit here is as thin as it was in his “expert commentary” on Kobe’s Kopter Krash.
